This film is about how humans have enslaved themselves to the system they created. Trying to escape or being part of it feels like two sides of the same coin.

Originating from the reinterpretation the Greek myth of Sisyphus’s punishment and Orpheus’s journey to the underworld, this video shows the absurdity of working for a system that feels like a never ending meaningless loop, and how the attempts to escape it can get us to turn to our darker more animal self. I wanted the video to be understood at various levels of symbolism, as I believe in the theory of archetype, that we all have some strong resonance to core elements, like water, animals, day and night…

The dense, strong, dark energy I felt while listening to the song for the first time naturally led me to these stories. It was like a horse running around in the dark, trying to escape from an invisible enemy. The idea of a loop came to me and I visualized these Sisyphus like an army of businessmen working towards an unclear goal, in an exhausting, repetitive life. We might all have felt like this sometimes, as if our work was not leading to anything meaningful for the society.
The other myth is Orpheus, who descended to the underworld after making a three-headed dog guardian fall asleep with his music. Orpheus attempt to bring back his wife from death fails, showing that we do not escape to the rules and our own limitations so easily… In Greek mythology, the entry gate to the underworld is a lake, and I wanted to play with the title of the song “The Shore” and make us feel like the woman is at the edge of something new, yet inaccessible. The lights represent the chance to move to a new system, a new life.

What do we find at the end of the tunnel when we break our chains out of society?
